Life is tough for families who are struggling to put food on their tables. During the summer holidays when children aren’t having meals at school, times can get even tougher.
The Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar was started by the Second Marlow Bottom Brownies as a fun and easy way to help the One Can Trust get enough food to stop local children from going hungry over the summer. In 2018, more than 30 organisations took part, not just schools and businesses but also Guiding groups and even Flackwell Heath Slimming World. Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar donations filled the One Can Trust shelves until the autumn.
We’re asking that you… your family, group, class, company… put aside a bag for life and, from the 1st day of July to the last day of the summer term, pop an item or £1 coin in the bag. It’s just a fun way of encouraging children to help other people while getting really excited about the summer holidays.
The One Can Trust warehouse in Duke St High Wycombe HP13 6EE will be open on Saturday 20 July from 10 until 1 and Wednesday 24 July 10 to 4 to receive your donations. Please get in touch for other opening hours.
If your school or organisation expects to collect around 10 bags of food or more, please email GuidingRebeccaLewis@gmail.com to organise for a pick up by volunteers from Intel High Wycombe.

Please let us know if you are collecting. We’ll need to make sure we have enough hands on deck to sort/store all your amazing gifts so they can get to the people who need them as quickly as possible.
Our huge, huge thanks to 2nd Marlow Bottom Brownies, their leader Rebecca and all the organisations we know are already getting ready to countdown to summer!
What’s in it for me?
For younger children, counting off the days and the tins can boost their numeracy. For older children, the calendar is a way to start them thinking about issues to do with poverty, balanced diets and budgeting. But above all, taking part in the One Can Trust Summer Holiday Countdown Calendar is really fun, as you can see from the pictures on this page from last year.
