At One Can Trust, we believe nobody should face poverty or food insecurity alone.
This week, we officially launched our new three year strategy during a special event held at The Hive, part of the Wycombe Islamic Society & Education community centre.
The event brought together volunteers, donors, civic leaders, and supporters from across Buckinghamshire to reflect on the growing need within our communities and to share our vision for the future.
From humble beginnings as a small food bank operating from St Andrew’s Church in High Wycombe, One Can Trust has grown into a charity supporting more than 5,000 people each year. With the support of over 400 incredible volunteers, we now distribute more than £600,000 worth of food annually across South Buckinghamshire.
Speaking at the event, our Chief Executive, Sonya Batchelor, shared the heart behind our mission:
“We are not a handout.
We are a hand up — helping people out of crisis, building resilience, and doing so without judgement while actively working to eradicate stigma.”
Our new strategy focuses on three key areas:
- Providing direct support to people in crisis
- Influencing wider change to address the root causes of poverty
- Strengthening partnerships, resources, and community collaboration
For Sonya, the mission remains deeply personal:
“This is my mission — to see the end of poverty.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who continues to walk alongside us in that ambition and help bring hope to those who need it most.”
We were honoured to welcome distinguished guests including Lady Howe and local civic representatives to mark this important milestone.
As demand for support continues to rise, this strategy represents our commitment to building a stronger, more compassionate community where nobody is left behind.
To everyone who supports One Can Trust, whether by volunteering, donating, fundraising, or partnering with us , thank you. Your support makes this work possible every single day.
