Christmas Countdown Calendar

The Christmas Countdown Calendar is a really simple idea and a great way to help others who need a little help at Christmas.

Those of you who have supported us with a Reverse Advent Calendar in previous years will notice that we’re doing things slightly differently this year.  We found that receiving calendars up until Christmas Eve meant we were unable to distribute your donations in time for Christmas.  Therefore this year we are running the calendar over a shorter period of time to allow us to get your much needed donations to our families on our last distribution day, which is the 20th December.

The idea is the same, we’re asking that you… your family, group, organisation, company… pop a can or a coin in a supermarket bag for life from the 1st December and bring it to us at our food store on one of our opening days.

On Saturday 15th December or Tuesday 18th December you can visit the foodbank to drop off your donations and see how they will be sorted and packed into food parcels before being passed on to people in need in our community.

We are asking that you pack your countdown calendar into bag(s) for life rather than boxes so that we can reuse them for our food parcels.  This avoids us having to recycle large amounts of cardboard (and of course saves 9p a bag).  But we do know how much children (and adults) like to decorate their countdown calendars, and as we are suggesting bags for life instead of boxes, this makes it rather difficult!  If you are keen to include a Christmas themed drawing, we would love to create a colourful display on our foodbank wall, and prizes will be going to the best ones so please do put contact details on the back.
